KUALA LUMPUR – Top Umno and Bersatu leaders are arriving at their respective headquarters to meet following the resignation of Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Among others, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Md Jidin were seen at the Bersatu headquarters in Menara Yayasan Selangor, Petaling Jaya, this afternoon.

Later about 5.15pm, Bersatu leaders started to leave their headquarters without Muhyiddin in sight.

Those seen leaving were Hamzah, Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali, Datuk Seri Zuraida Kamaruddin, Datuk Seri Mohd Radzi Md Jidin, Datuk Seri Saifuddin Abdullah, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed and Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

Meanwhile, Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan was spotted at Menara Dato’ Onn here ahead of the Umno Supreme Council meeting.

Also at the Umno headquarters, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the party will hold a Supreme Council meeting if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah decides to grant audiences with party leaders.

“We will wait; if the Yang di-Pertuan Agong calls party leaders, we will hold the meeting,” he told reporters before leaving Menara Dato Onn at 4.45pm, as quoted by Malaysia Gazette.

Asked about his presence at the party headquarters, Khaled said he was there to attend the Umno political bureau meeting, which had started at 2pm today.

Other party members there are Umno Melaka communications chairman Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, former finance minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, Sabah Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin and Tg Karang MP Tan Sri Noh Omar.

Dewan Rakyat Deputy Speaker Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid and former energy and natural resources minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Anuar Nasarah were also seen.

Both parties are expected to discuss their separate plans on Muhyiddin’s replacement and how to garner enough support to convince the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.

Muhyiddin apparently left for his private residence in Bukit Damansara after his televised address announcing his resignation. – The Vibes, August 16, 2021
