KENINGAU – Three men suspected of poaching were detained by the General Operations Force (GOF) in Sepulut forest reserve here early this morning.
Authorities found a home-made gun (bakakok) and three packets of methamphetamine from their vehicle.
The trio, all local men, aged 19 to 25, were arrested at 1am Saturday when the Khazanah Integrated Operation team was patrolling near Mile 63 of the forest.
Sabah GOF commander Mohd Abduh Ismail said the team consisting of GOF forces, the Sabah Forestry Department, the Sabah Wildlife Department and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) came across the four-wheel drive and stopped to inspect.
He said suspects were brought to Keningau police headquarters for further action as officers from Keningau and Kinabatangan stations are investigating the case.
The case is investigated under Section 8 (a) of Arms Act 1960 and Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Police also seized a vehicle and a motorcycle during the operation, with a cumulative estimated worth of about RM56,165. – The Vibes, August 22, 2021
