KOTA KINABALU – Sabah registered a record-high 3,376 new Covid-19 cases, up 902 from the 2,474 cases yesterday.

The state has been consistently reporting more than 2,000 infections a day over the past weeks, indicating that the coronavirus has spread within the community.

Of the total today, 2,094 (62%) cases involve close contacts, while 784 (23%) were detected via screening and 164 (4.9%) came from existing clusters.

Sabah Covid-19 spokesman Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun in a statement today said 3,316 (98%) patients are from Categories 1 and 2 (asymptomatic or have mild symptoms).

Seven patients are in Category 3, one in Category 4, and 10 in Category 5, he added.

“Almost 65% of those infected are aged between 17 and 59; 19% aged between 6 and 17; 8.8% aged between 1 and 5; and, 6.7% aged 60 and above.”

Kota Kinabalu claimed the highest number of infections, followed by Tuaran, Penampang, Papar, Sandakan, Tawau, Sipitang, Putatan, Lahad Datu, Keningau, Beaufort and Kinabatangan. - The Vibes, August 24, 2021
