KOTA KINABALU – Political parties in Sabah today welcomed the decree by Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to not accede to Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s request to declare an emergency in Malaysia.

Sabah Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin took to his Twitter account to say the Agong had made an accurate decision.

Sabah DAP's acting chairman Datuk Frankie Poon echoed Bung’s tweet.

“At times like this, we need to set aside our differences and be united. The government must be united so together we can plan, calm our people, and seek their cooperation in moving forward.

“Resorting to a state of emergency will not help our nation move forward.”

Kapayan assemblywoman Jannie Lasimbang of DAP said Sabahans were in a state of panic when they heard the possibility of an emergency being declared in Malaysia.

She said many feared that during the emergency, there would be no one to hand out food aid.

She added more than 25,000 people have signed onto a campaign objecting to a state of emergency.

“I am happy with His Majetry’s decision. Daulat Tuanku!”

Meanwhile, Warisan member Ben Mansul said the Agong made a good decision.

“The cabinet’s decision is not necessarily the best for the nation. The Parliament is the best avenue to settle the political tussle through a confidence motion.

“If the prime minister survives this, it is a boost for him. If he fails, he has to consider resigning.” – The Vibes, October 26, 2020
