KOTA KINABALU – The high electricity bills received by several Sabah consumers are due to a month-long billing system upgrade that is being carried out by Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB).

SESB senior general manager of asset management Idris Mohd Noor said consumers have been charged for two months – July and August – as reflected in this month’s higher bill.

He said SESB had to configure the billing system following the discount implemented under the Pemulih initiative on June 28.

“The configuration was done throughout the month of July. This is to record the discount under the Pemulih package and for this, there will be no meter reading at premises, therefore no physical bills will be issued for the month.

“For those who have already paid this month, the system is now updating the records, but it will take some time to reflect on the bills,” he said in a statement.

Idris said some consumers will not get their July deductions in their current bills, but should not worry as their dues will be updated in the system soon.

Sabahans took their grouses to social media, complaining about the high electricity bills, with one user claiming that she was instructed by an SESB worker to lodge a complaint with the Energy Commission. – The Vibes, August 30, 2021
