KUALA LUMPUR – Following the royal decree from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong warning of excessively politicking, two youth groups are unimpressed with the latest political upheaval in the country.

“Malaysians do not want any more politicking from either side. On the flip side, society should not judge the younger generation for not voting or being apolitical as they are suffering from political fatigue,” Muhammad Faizal Abdul Aziz, who is Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia president told The Vibes.

He said the recent emergency fiasco brought about by Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin shows that the people’s voice has been ignored as politicians seek to propagate their own position.

“All the politicians must take responsibility for the political turmoil that is happening, and they must work towards legislating relevant laws to prevent the misinterpretation of the people’s mandate. They must include laws that will empower constituents to call for their MP’s resignation through petitions such as those practised in the UK.”

Politicking has to stop

Hindu Sevai Sangam national coordinator R.Parthiban believes that the current situation indicates cooperation and solidarity should remain a mainstream voice when the world is threatened by a major public health crisis.

“How much interest and importance given by the leaders are in question right now because the people are quite upset with our leaders, ruling or otherwise.

“They (politicians) better stop playing their ridiculous games, stop politicising the pandemic, and cooperate to fight Covid-19.”

Parthiban and Faizal said since the 2018 general election, the people are feeling betrayed by politicians.

“There’s a feeling of no hope, no trust and no point in investing our time, mind, thoughts in politics,” they said.

Faizal said the electoral system needs a drastic change, and if this fails, the third voice party will always be sidelined.

On the contrary, Parthiban said third force parties cannot be dogmatic about their approach.

The two said current leaders should let the younger generation lead the way in using social media to promote their ideas for the country. – The Vibes, October 26, 2020
