KUALA LUMPUR – The Sg Semenyih water treatment plant has been forced to shut down once again following another incident of odour pollutionin its raw water source.
In a Facebook post today, Air Selangor said the shutdown will cause unscheduled disruptions in water supply to 463 locations in five different districts – Petaling (172 areas), Hulu Langat (54 areas), Sepang (194 areas), Putrajaya (23 areas) and Kuala Langat (20 areas).
“Air Selangor will continue updating the situation from time to time through our official channels or the Air Selangor app, Twitter, Facebook (and) Instagram (pages), and our website,” said the statement.
On Tuesday, those same areas faced a similar water disruption after odour pollution was detected at the Jenderam Hilir water pump station at 11.10am.
This caused the Sg Semenyih water treatment plant to close while Air Selangor investigated the cause of the pollution along Sg Semenyih and its tributaries.
Fortunately, water supply was restored to 26% of the 463 affected areas by noon the next day.
Later that same evening, Air Selangor announced it had recorded a reading of zero in terms of the threshold odour number three times in a row from Sg Semenyih samples.
This, Air Selangor said, will allow operations to resume at the Sg Semenyih water treatment plant.
However, it said, cleaning work must first be conducted before operations commence.
“The cleaning and water treatment at the plant will take approximately 14 hours. In the meantime, Air Selangor will share recovery plans for all affected areas in a press statement tomorrow at 7am,” it said. – The Vibes, September 3, 2021
