AN 11-month-old baby girl died after being found drowned in a bucket of water in the backyard of a house in Jalan Sri Permata Ladang, Seremban, yesterday.

Seremban District Police Chief ACP Mohd Yatim Osman said police received a report regarding the incident at 7.22 pm.

"At the time of the incident, the victim was being looked after by her grandmother from about 9 am while her parents were out for work. At about 2.30 pm, the victim was sleeping in the cradle while her grandmother was cooking and drying clothes, when the woman realised the baby was not in the cradle.

"The baby was later found in a bucket containing some soapy water with her head down," he said in a statement today.

He said the baby was then taken to a nearby clinic before being referred to Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital and confirmed dead by medical officers at 4.30 pm.

He said a post-mortem was carried out early this morning, but the cause of death had yet to be determined as they were awaiting the results of laboratory tests.

Mohd Yatim said that following this, the police had arrested a 54-year-old local woman to assist in the investigation under Section 31(1)(a) of the Children's Act 2001.

The public with information on the incident is asked to contact Investigating Officer Insp Sinniah Rajoo at 06-6033222 to assist in the investigation. – May 27, 2026
