GEORGE TOWN – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng denied violating standard operating procedures (SOPs) while attending the Penang state assembly session last week.

In a statement today, Lim said that he was informed only on September 2, after attending the assembly sitting, that he possibly had close contact with a Covid-19 patient on September 1.

“I had remained at home under self-quarantine after attending the Penang state assembly on September 2 and had subsequently tested negative.

“The Health Ministry officially issued on September 6 a home self-quarantine order from September 1 to 10 and required me to wear the pink wristband.”

Lim, a former chief minister of Penang, has been the DAP representative for Air Putih since 2008.

Penang Gerakan Youth yesterday lodged a police report against him for allegedly violating his home quarantine order.

Its spokesman Mohd Aswaad Jaafar questioned how Lim could attend the assembly sitting on September 2 when he had been ordered to undergo self-quarantine after being found to be a close contact of a Covid-19 patient.

This came about after Lim’s lawyer Gobind Singh Deo had informed the Kuala Lumpur sessions court earlier yesterday of the order to his client to self-quarantine, dated from September 1 to 10.

Gobind had said this during Lim’s corruption trial linked to the Penang undersea tunnel project.

Meanwhile, Lim also denied going out in public to distribute food parcels to his constituents on September 2, 4, and 8, saying that the events reported via posts on Facebook were held earlier.

“I have not gone out in public to distribute food parcels after September 2. The events in Facebook posts showing food parcel distribution were on several occasions on or before August 31 in Bagan,” he said.

Lim, who is also the MP for Bagan, said that the posts were uploaded several days after the events – The Vibes, September 9, 2021
