KUALA LUMPUR – Despite the introduction of new functions to the MySejahtera app, including the check-out feature, Fahmi Fadzil (Lembah Pantai-PH) called for improvement to the contact tracing app.

In debating the royal address in the Dewan Rakyat today, Fahmi said there are users who are still not used to clicking “check out” on their apps as no notifications are issued as reminders.

The PKR communications chief urged the Health Ministry to look into this and provide an explanation, and improve the app.

“Please explain to the people. What exactly is the problem with MySejahtera? There are many staff and MPs who have checked in to the building but did not check out.

“It is as though some MPs spent the night in Parliament because they did not check out from the building.

“So what exactly can we do? We don’t need to think about ‘super apps’, but we can improve the app that we have now,” he said.

Previously, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced more features and improvements made to the app, including the check-out function, and an improved vaccination status display.

In addition, Fahmi also urged Khairy to explain the technical glitches that happened during the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine opt-in programme in May.

“I ask the health minister to provide an answer on September 23. How much of the people’s money had been spent to develop that website?” he asked.

Commenting on 5G’s roll-out in the country, he also questioned the government’s decision for not implementing a dual consortium model like other countries such as Singapore.

“What will MCMC (Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission) do to reduce the risk of anti-competitive behaviour (among telco providers)? I hope the communications and multimedia minister can provide us with an answer.

“Pertaining to Digital Nasional Berhad and 5G, there needs to be a special committee to manage it.

“It involves the future infrastructure of the country and it involves a large amount. We cannot afford to see the effort fail,” he said. – The Vibes, September 20, 2021
