MIRI – A 15-year-old teenage boy with special needs died of Covid-19 here today.
He is one of the 12 who died of the coronavirus in Sarawak, bringing the fatality toll to 709.
The state Disaster Management Committee said while the teen died in Miri Hospital Sunday, tests carried out on his remains only today confirmed his death was due to Covid-19.
“The victim was a special needs individual. He had suffered injuries to the brain in an accident in July.
“He died on September 19 in Miri Hospital,” the secretariat said.
The other 11 deaths were in Betong involving two women aged 60 and 66 and two men aged 80 and 86, a woman aged 90 in Sarikei, two women aged 83 and 91 as well as a 91-year-old man in Kuching, a man aged 61 in Limbang, a 61-year-old woman in Kapit and a Sibu woman aged 95.
The youngest Covid-19 fatality in Sarawak so far was of an 8-year-old in Serian Hospital on August 29.
There were 3,724 new infections logged statewide today, with Kuching having 1,509 cases, Sibu (370), Bintulu (249), Samarahan (224), Miri (202) and Sri Aman (161), while other districts saw a few dozen cases each. – The Vibes, September 21, 2021
