KUALA LUMPUR – Police have confirmed that it has launched an investigation into former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s allegation of collusion between Inland Revenue Board (IRB) officials and certain politicians in relation to his tax case.

In a statement, Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) department director Datuk Mohd Kamarudin Md Din said the matter is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code.

He said all the quarters involved will be called in to assist with investigations soon.

“The public is reminded not to make any speculation that could affect investigations.

“The police will ensure investigations are carried out fairly and justly, in line with existing laws.”

Earlier this month, Najib lodged a report alleging IRB officials had colluded with certain politicians to falsify documents and commit power abuse in relation to his tax case.

Najib claimed he has “strong evidence” that senior IRB officials and said politicians “clearly” violated various sections of the Penal Code and Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009.

This came after the Kuala Lumpur High Court ordered Najib to pay an additional RM1.69 billion in income tax to the government in July.

The Pekan MP said he recently received information on the matter, and that some officers have met him to apologise over the case that has purportedly been investigated thrice since 2018. – The Vibes, September 22, 2021
