KUALA LUMPUR – Maryam Muzamir, an 11-year-old student from Kuantan, has garnered local and international praise for her innovative product.

With only the ingredients of common food waste from discarded seafood shells, Maryam’s YAM2.0 is a sustainable livestock feed that can be used for chicken, goats, fish, and pigs.

On September 23, TV host James Corden applauded Maryam’s product and uploaded a clip from his show with the hashtag #ClimateNight.

Local Twitter users expressed their pride in Maryam, many congratulating her on her achievements and care for the environment while calling for other Malaysians to follow her example.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah also expressed his well-wishes in a tweet.

“Congratulations to our 11-year-old Maryam Muzamir. She found a use for seafood shells by creating sustainable livestock feed. May she be a role model and future global leader in sustainable development goals. Insya-Allah.”

Besides that, the International Trade and Industry Ministry also acknowledged young Maryam, tweeting their congratulations and compliments.

“Congratulations to adik Maryam Muzamir for your invention! Such great talent at only 11 years old. May you be an inspiration to all the young talents out there who will be the future leaders of this blessed nation.”

A Standard 5 student at SK(P) Methodist Kuantan, Maryam had won two gold medals at the Creation, Innovation, Technology & Research Exposition last year and this year.

To add to her achievements, she also won a third gold medal at the International Research Invention and Innovation Exhibition earlier this year.

With her family’s encouragement, she went on to join iCAN 2021 and bagged the Canadian Special Award and Best Young Inventor Award, making her first victory abroad one to remember.

She was the youngest winner in the competition and beat more than 600 participants from over 70 countries for the titles. – The Vibes, September 25, 2021
