KUALA LUMPUR – No investigation papers have been launched to look into allegations that Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH) funds were misappropriated prior to 2018, said Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary (Pengkalan Chepa-PAS)

He also dismissed the allegations of misappropriation, including claims against former TH chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim (Baling-BN).

“So far, no investigation papers have been opened against any party on allegations of stealing money from TH, including against the Baling MP,” he said in response to Azeez’s question on possible investigation papers.

Azeez, who was the TH chairman from 2013 to 2018, also said approximately 520,000 depositors closed their accounts after claims of misappropriation of funds in the institution.

Meanwhile, Marzuk said the government will announce the terms and conditions of the royal commission of inquiry (RCI) set up to investigate issues related to TH very soon.

On July 14, it was announced that the RCI will be established to look into TH-related issues that arose from audits carried out in the board.

Marzuk reiterated that Urusharta Jamaah Sdn Bhd (UJSB) had only earned RM233.98 million in 2019, insufficient to clear its RM27.6 million debt incurred by TH, as stated in its 2019 audit report.

UJSB is a special-purpose vehicle established by the Finance Ministry to assist in the rehabilitation of the assets taken over from TH. – The Vibes, September 27, 2021
