SANDAKAN – A 35-year-old man was found dead in a drain in Jalan Labuk, Bandar Sibuga Jaya Mile 8 here.
He was believed to have died of electrocution during his attempt at stealing a live electrical cable.
The victim, who was identified by the Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department as a migrant named Mohd Nasir Hassan, was found by passers-by at about 6.30am today.
At the moment, authorities believe that the victim’s death was caused by electrocution based on an electrical cable that was still stuck to his arm when he was discovered this morning.
Sandakan district police chief Mohd Azhar Hamin said that there was also other equipment near the deceased, leading to the assumption that Nasir was conducting an illegal activity.
“Police also believe that the victim was stealing an electrical cable, as we found a cable that has been cut, and tools such as a wire cutter, screwdriver, and knife near the body.
“Investigations as of now have not found any element of foul play behind the death of the victim,” he said in a statement today.
The body has been sent to the forensic unit of Duchess of Kent Hospital to determine the exact cause of death.
However, investigation is still ongoing, and the case is classified as sudden death. – The Vibes, October 2, 2021
