KUALA LUMPUR - Amid the ongoing political imbroglio and recent rumours of a cabinet reshuffle, Umno has pledged for all its ministers to remain in the government, its president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said.
This was decided in the party’s Supreme Council meeting at its headquarters at Putra World Trade Centre last night, which lasted over four hours.
Zahid, however, made no mention of negotiations on who should represent the party as the Deputy Prime Minister, in a statement released after the meeting, despite sources claiming that the matter would be at the top of last night’s agenda.
Zahid instead reiterated the party’s stand that a general election should be held immediately after the country is able to get the Covid-19 pandemic under control, to return the mandate to the rakyat.
“We are a party that always give priority to the people’s agenda,” he said.
“As such, all Cabinet members representing Umno must remain in the government and we are committed to continuing taking care of the people’s welfare and defending the party’s dignity.
On the coming Budget 2021 tabling scheduled for November 6, Zahid said Umno would ensure that it is passed in Parliament.
Among other things, Umno proposed that the bank loan moratorium be extended to aid the public, financial aid to those who have lost their source of income due to Covid-19 and assistance to unemployed youth.
Additionally, Zahid said frontliners should also be given special cash aid, while other initiatives to improve the economy must also be included. – The Vibes, October 30, 2020
