KUALA LUMPUR – Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (Port Dickson-PH) slammed the government for its lack of progress and commitment a month into the memorandum of understanding (MoU).
He said in Dewan Rakyat today that the MoU is constantly referred to regarding achieving political stability, and alleged deliberate delays.
“The progress is weak, and there’s no success on parliamentary reforms. There seems to be no commitment other than trumpeting political stability.
“We are unsatisfied with slow progress that seems to be deliberately delayed.”
In his reply, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Economy) Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed (Jeli-Bersatu) agreed with Anwar.
"We must be transparent and honest. If there’s progress we would say so, if there is not, we must be honest.
“I’m sure the prime minister and other MPs understand the current situation, and steps will be taken,” said Mustapa.
Nevertheless, from the perspective of making Malaysia an attractive country for investors, Mustapa highlighted the importance of political stability and the MoU.
“We politicians know how important political stability is, which is why we signed the MoU on September 13.
“With stability, this allows us to focus on the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic and economic recovery.
