ALOR STAR – Kedah DAP will not be a part of any move to destabilise the state government despite what has happened in Melaka considering the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic.
Kedah DAP chairman Tan Kok Yew told The Vibes that other states should not be put in the same situation as Melaka that is now forced to hold an election in 60 days.
Tan, who is Derga assemblyman, said Kedah is different compared with Melaka, as PAS and Bersatu have a strong relationship while Umno only has two state seats.
In the 36-seat Kedah assembly, PAS has 15 while Bersatu holds six.
The opposition has 11 seats – PKR (5), Amanah (4), and two each for DAP and Pejuang.
“Elected representatives have a responsibility to the people. Their welfare and well-being are of utmost importance compared to personal and political vengeance, and interests.
“The interest of the people and country should come first.
“Elected representatives should not think of personal or party interests or personal gain to topple the government.
“The DAP will never do this, and we won’t support such a move in Kedah. We support the state government in initiatives that serve the people during the pandemic. The virus has made the lives of ordinary folk more challenging than ever.”
He added that the federal level, the government and Pakatan Harapan have signed a memorandum of understanding to stabilise the country’s political situation.
Tan said this when he was asked whether Kedah will face a similar fate like Melaka where four of its assemblymen withdrew support for the chief minister.
The Melaka state legislative assembly was dissolved yesterday, paving the way for a snap election.
