KOTA KINABALU – Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal has offered fledgling group Muda a chance to contest under the Warisan banner in the next general election.

The party president told senior editors during a dialogue called “The Concorde Club” today that the offer has been made to Muda, led by Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman.

“I also offered Syed Saddiq an opportunity for his party’s candidates in GE15 to stand on a Warisan ticket if the Registrar of Societies fails to register the group by then. It’s his choice if he wants to take up the offer.

“I also advised him not to impose an age limit for its members and leaders as it will not be practical,” said Shafie, adding that Warisan is on track to expand to Peninsular Malaysia.

Muda has yet to be registered as a political party.

On January 6, the RoS had refused to register Muda as a political party seven days after a court ruling.

On January 12, Syed Saddiq and 12 applicants filed their bid for leave for a judicial review by naming RoS and the home minister as the first and second respondents, respectively, to seek an order to cancel the RoS’ decision not to register Muda as a political outfit under Section 7 of the Societies Act 1966.

Syed Saddiq, who is also former Bersatu Youth chief, in his supporting affidavit, said the applicants received a letter from the RoS on January 6 stating that Muda’s application did not meet the First Schedule of the Societies Act, and that the application was rejected in accordance with Section 7(3)(e) of the Act.

“There is an omission by the RoS to explain in detail the small paragraph or provision under the First Schedule that was not complied with by Muda. We could not find out about the alleged non-compliance, and could not correct it,” Syed Saddiq had said.

“Muda has fully complied with all the provisions of the First Schedule of the Societies Act. Therefore, there is no basis to reject Muda’s registration application.”

Meanwhile, Shafie said Warisan is set for its launch as an official national party, and that this is when its collaboration with Muda will be announced.

Shafie said Warisan will be promoted as a multiracial platform, stressing less on race and religion.

“Our platform will be multiracialism. I want the young on board because the young are prepared to make changes,” Shafie was quoted as saying in Malay Mail. – The Vibes, October 20, 2021
