KUALA LUMPUR – In a show of unity, the Pakatan Harapan (PH) presidential council has agreed to use the coalition’s logo for the Melaka election next month.
During a press conference at the PKR headquarters today, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said it was a unanimous decision among the member parties.
“For the Melaka polls, as a test, the coalition agreed to use the PH logo. There will only be one logo that we contest under – one stance and one manifesto at the state level.”
He added that PH has concluded its state seat negotiations with PKR contesting 11, Amanah nine, and DAP eight.
While the Melaka election will only see state seats being contested, Anwar said PH also decided on the seat allocation for parliamentary constituencies – with PKR and Amanah contesting two each while DAP gets three.
“Among DAP’s three seats, one of them will be Alor Gajah as it is traditionally a DAP seat.”
On election standard operating procedures in Melaka, DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said voters will not have many opportunities to meet candidates in person.
He added that the federal government and Election Commission should not draft SOPs without consulting opposition parties.
“Nevertheless, PH will comply with whatever rules have been set. Hopefully they don’t implement SOPs halfway.
“And if they do decide to loosen up the rules, we recommend that they follow SOPs under Phase 4 of the National Recovery Plan,” Lim said. – The Vibes, October 29, 2021
