KUALA LUMPUR – Lawmaker Alice Yau (Lanang-PH) hopes there will not be any technical glitches involving MySejahtera that may jeopardise the upcoming Melaka and Sarawak elections.
Speaking in the Dewan Rakyat today, the MP brought up the possibility of a similar hiccup with the app recently.
“If this problem happens then, it will cause unfairness among voters.
“Those affected will be unable to leave their houses, much less enter voting centres to carry out their right and responsibility to vote,” Yau said, adding that the Election Commission (EC) should plan alternative measures if voters face problems due to MySejahtera issues.
She noted that several users who were vacationing became mentally and financially affected by the glitch, as they failed to enter premises such as hotels or board flights.
“Will the government take responsibility and compensate those who suffered losses? Who will be held responsible for MySejahtera’s mistake?”
Yap suggested for MySejahtera to have a hotline service available around the clock, claiming that the current helpdesk function is insufficient as users who lodge complaints are made to wait a long time before their issues are resolved.
Urging the Health Ministry (MoH) to seriously look into problems caused by technical failures of the app, she expressed her hope for no further recurrences.
Earlier today, EC chairman Datuk Abdul Ghani Salleh assured that it will follow standard operating procedures set by MoH and the National Security Council.
He said a special tent with MoH staff will be provided for those who go out to vote yet exhibit symptoms, particularly individuals who record body temperatures above 37.5°C.
Yesterday, random users were affected after MySejahtera incorrectly assigned them with home surveillance orders and person under surveillance status.
Although MySejahtera apologised and said the issue has been resolved, many users are complaining that their incorrect statuses still remain, affecting their ability to check into business premises. – The Vibes, November 8, 2021
