KUALA LUMPUR – A day before polling in Melaka, Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has alleged money politics in at least eight constituencies in the state.

In a brief Facebook post today, he claimed that some candidates are handing out RM400 to each resident as enticement for support.

He added that he received news of such happenings in the constituencies of Bemban, Rim, Tg Bidara, Pantai Kundor, Duyong, Gadek, Ayer Limau and Rembia.

“Money politics is a bad political culture. Today, they will spend money to buy a win, but if they win, they will take the money for themselves,” he said, adding that the party’s election machinery has been ordered to collect evidence for a report.

“I am confident that the people of Melaka will not be fooled by such efforts to buy votes. Let us build a new culture founded on integrity together with Perikatan Nasional.”

On October 4, the state assembly was dissolved after four assemblymen withdrew their support for former chief minister Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali.

Nominations were held on November 8, with early voting on November 10.
