MIRI – Only about 58% of the adult population in Sarawak have received their Covid-19 vaccine booster shots, even though the state election is less than 60 days away.
Concerned over the rate, caretaker housing and local government minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian has taken to social media to call on all eligible Sarawakians to go for their booster shots.
“Between October and November, there were 821,000 Sarawakians eligible for a booster dose. However, we must do better than 58%. There will be another 338,000 Sarawakians who have gotten two doses of Sinovac, and are eligible for a booster this month.
“The waning effects we experienced started weeks ago, but Sarawak infection cases and deaths will continue to go down with the progress of the booster programme,” he said in a statement.
He urges all those who are eligible to go for their booster dose soonest possible.
“Don’t wait, as any vaccine (brand) in your body will give you protection against Covid-19 infections, severity and deaths.”
