KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu youth wing Armada has demanded that authorities be prepared to extradite Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor if she fails to return home in time for her Court of Appeal hearing Monday.
Armada information chief Ashraf Mustaqim told reporters near the Dang Wangi district police headquarters today that he will be lodging a report over the matter, adding that Rosmah’s behaviour is tantamount to contempt of court.
“Even if she returns home, she must still go through quarantine seeing that the Omicron variant is already in the country. Will she bring home the coronavirus?
Therefore, we in Armada and Perikatan Nasional demand that she be extradited if she failed to come home, whether she is still in Singapore or if she has run off to another place. We want her to be extradited.”
The youth leader, who conducted the press conference with a cast on his left leg after a tendon injury in Melaka recently, said Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Mohamed Zaini Mazlan had on October 15 instructed Rosmah to return home by November 21.
She was supposed to make an appearance in the Court of Appeal on December 2 over her request to remove former Federal Court judge Datuk Seri Gopal Sri Ram as senior deputy public prosecutor in her corruption trial in relation to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak.
Seeing that she failed to attend proceedings on December 2, her lawyer had applied for adjournment, promising that she will be in court on Monday.
Ashraf said Rosmah, the wife of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, was supposed to surrender her passport on the same day – raising the question on how she was to make a court appearance and surrender her passport while undergoing quarantine, seeing as his sources have told him that she is still in Singapore.
“Another issue that must be investigated is why the attorney-general did not contest Rosmah’s request in court when judge Zaini granted the leeway.
“We demand that she is treated like a normal person and not like a bangsawan (aristocrat) simply because she is the wife of a big shot – therefore given special treatment and can gallivant to wherever she pleases.”
On Thursday, the Court of Appeal ordered Rosmah to attend proceedings on Monday but denied Sri Ram’s application to issue her with an arrest warrant and revoke her bail after failing to follow the high court order issued on October 15.
Free Malaysia Today reported that the court was withholding the arrest warrant as Rosmah had not skipped her high court proceedings prior to this.
Earlier, Rosmah’s passport was returned to her, allowing her to visit her heavily pregnant daughter Nooryana Najwa in Singapore.
Zaini Mazlan had ordered Rosmah to return her passport on December 6 and return to Malaysia on or before November 21.
However, Rosmah was still in Singapore as her lawyer Datuk Jagjit Singh confirmed to the court, saying her travel plans changed after taking into consideration the quarantine duration imposed by the two countries.
Rosmah sought the stay order pending the disposal of her appeal against a high court decision on September 24 this year, which dismissed her application to nullify her corruption trial and remove Sri Ram as lead prosecutor.
She also filed the two applications at the high court on May 6 this year, seeking to nullify her entire trial, in a bid to be acquitted of all three charges and to remove Sri Ram as lead prosecutor.
She has been charged with soliciting RM187.5 million and two counts of receiving bribes of RM6.5 million from Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd’s former managing director, Saidi Abang Samsuddin, through her former special officer, Datuk Rizal Mansor.
It was an alleged inducement to help the company (Jepak Holdings) secure the hybrid photovoltaic solar system integrated project and maintenance and operation of genset/diesel for 369 rural schools in Sarawak worth RM1.25 billion through direct negotiation with the Education Ministry.
She is accused of dishonestly soliciting for herself through Rizal at Lygon Cafe, Sunway Putra Mall, Jalan Putra, Kuala Lumpur, between March and April 2016.
For the second charge, Rosmah is alleged to have dishonestly received for herself RM1.5 million from Saidi for the same purpose at her residence in Jalan Langgak Duta, Taman Duta, on September 7, 2017.
Rosmah is also facing a third charge of accepting gratification of RM5 million from Saidi through Rizal for helping Jepak Holdings secure the same project on December 20, 2016, at the Seri Perdana residence in Putrajaya between January 2016 and September 2017. – The Vibes, December 4, 2021
