KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s National Registration Department today admitted that it has been facing problems printing official documents, including birth certificates, due to the lack of paper since October.

In a statement today, the department said the issue was not only prevalent in Sabah but Sarawak as well.

It could not be ascertained whether the NRD state offices in Peninsular Malaysia are facing similar issues.

“Following social media complaints on the NRD having run out of paper, it is not as claimed by others as happening 10 months ago, but since October.

“The paper is imported from China and the delay in arrivals of new stock to Malaysia was caused by a flood that happened there recently.

“We checked on the arrival of the papers in Malaysia and customs clearance on December 6, and the printing company already received the papers on December 8 to process the birth certificates,” the department stated today.

The department said that it will make sure the company supplying paper to print birth certificates will arrive in Sabah by next week.

“To ensure there will be no more delays, Sabah NRD officers will secure the birth certificates ourselves next week at the NRD headquarters in Putrajaya by hand.

“They will be distributed immediately to the NRD offices across Sabah on arrival in Kota Kinabalu.”

The department said any affected parties who wish to travel to the peninsula can get their certified birth certificate letters from Sabah’s NRD offices. – The Vibes, December 10, 2021
