KUALA LUMPUR – DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng has been admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) since Sunday, said Gobind Singh Deo.
Gobind told The Vibes that Lim underwent a medical procedure yesterday morning at IJN and is in stable condition.
“He underwent a medical procedure yesterday morning, and is not in critical condition.
“Lim will attend the trial this Thursday,” he said.
When asked if the former finance minister had complained of being unwell before, Gobind declined to reveal further details.
“I can’t disclose the details. I have told the court that Lim is only undergoing a medical procedure,” he said, declining to elaborate on the details of Lim’s illness.
Earlier, the New Straits Times had reported that the former Penang chief minister failed to appear for his corruption trial involving the Penang undersea tunnel project at the Kuala Lumpur sessions court today.
It is understood that this is the second time Lim has been absent for his trial.
The first was in September when the hearing was postponed after Lim was identified as a close contact with a Covid-19 positive individual.
Meanwhile, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharudin Wan Ladin said he was informed that Lim was only undergoing a regular checkup routine at IJN.
Wan Shaharuddin said he was also informed of the matter through a letter stating that Lim was only undergoing an angiogram procedure at IJN.
“I feel a little upset because I was informed that he went to IJN on December 7, but why did he choose to be admitted to the hospital yesterday?” he said when contacted by The Vibes.
Lim presently faces four charges, one under Section 16(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act for having allegedly solicited kickbacks of 10% of future profits from businessman Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkiflil as a reward to help the latter’s company secure the project in March 2011 as Penang chief minister then.
He is also facing one charge under Section 23 (1) of the same act for allegedly receiving RM3.3 million in kickbacks from Zarul between January 2011 and October 2017 for allegedly helping the latter’s company secure the megaproject. – The Vibes, December 14, 2021
