Only 4 out of 5 charged in Nhaveen murder case: witness

GEORGE TOWN – The key witness in the case of the late T. Nhaveen told the Penang High Court today that there was a fifth individual who had beaten the 18-year-old.

T. Previin, 22, said he knew all five individuals, four of whom were accused in the Nhaveen murder case.

He said the four accused had hit Nhaveen using a helmet, while a man known as Gopi had hit Nhaveen using his hands.

“I saw them hitting Nhaveen, near a storage shed at the open field (Jalan Bunga Raya neighbourhood field).

“At that time, I hid behind a tree and saw the incident clearly at a distance of about 15m,” he said.

Previin said he saw the incident for more than a minute, before deciding to run home and seek help.

He said, upon arriving home, his mother and sister were shocked to see his injured condition and asked about the incident.

“I just said that Nhaveen was kidnapped, and then I went to Nhaveen’s house on a motorcycle to tell Nhaveen’s mother.”

Meanwhile, deputy public prosecutor Mohd Amril Johari informed judicial commissioner Mohd Radzi Abdul Hamid that the prosecution would review the charge sheet, following changes over important facts of the case.

“We will look back at the charge sheet and refer it to the state prosecutor’s office for further action.”

J. Ragesuthan, 18, S. Gokulan, 18, and two juveniles, one aged 17 and the other 16, were charged with the murder of Nhaveen at the magistrates’ court on June 19, 2017.

They were accused of murdering Nhaveen near the Karpal Singh Learning Centre, Jalan Kaki Bukit, Gelugor between 11pm and midnight on June 9, 2017.

Lawyer Datuk Ranjit Singh Dhillon represented Ragesuthan and Gokulan, while Maanveer Singh Dhillon and Yagoo Subramaniam represented the other two minors.
