SANDAKAN – Sabah PKR chief Christina Liew has denied leaving PKR to join Datuk Peter Anthony on the heels of his departure from Warisan yesterday as rumours continued to swirl over her position in the party.
Liew, who is currently facing a testy leadership phase in Sabah PKR after 17 state division leaders recently called for her removal as state party chief, is speculated to exit the party in favour of Anthony’s newly formed party.
Through her secretary, Liew, however, told The Vibes that she will not be quitting PKR to join Anthony’s proposed Sabah-centric party.
Anthony is expected to reveal details on his new party during its launch, slated to be held next week.
During a press conference yesterday, Anthony said that he will wait and see if there will be other Warisan or PKR reps who will enter his party once it takes off.
He did not deny a reporter’s question on whether a PKR rep will become a member of his party, leaving open the possibility of Liew joining him later.
Meanwhile, Sabah PKR Youth information chief Razeef Rakimin said he could not comment on the matter unless the rumour had been verified as true.
However, he said that Liew should stay with PKR to prove that she has strong principles.
“I would be furious if she really does leave the party,” he told The Vibes.
Razeef said he is aware of the rumours, adding that he had also received reports about threats and offers made to the opposition reps in Sabah, especially those with pending court cases.
“In my opinion, this type of politics is disgusting and must be stopped immediately, more so in a time where the country is striving to escape the pandemic crisis, where efforts to do so are being halted by the Omicron variant.
“Such political moves have claimed thousands of lives in the country – the Covid-19 infection rate increased after the Sabah by-election last year,” he said. – The Vibes, December 29, 2021
