GEORGE TOWN – Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow yesterday tested negative for Covid-19 after undergoing a five-day home quarantine here.
He has been confined to his home since Sunday because he was a close contact after a veteran community leader tested positive, after both attended a private dinner here last Saturday.
Chow was quoted by state mouthpiece Bulletin Mutiara that he was released from his quarantine after testing negative twice for Covid-19.
He is already back at work starting with handing over state aid to the missionary and vernacular schools at Komtar.
Today’s event is an annual handout by the state to aid the schools in the upkeep of their buildings and providing the right amenities to the students here.
Meanwhile, state health exco Dr Norlela Ariffin said Penang is ranked second in the country for the last three days in terms of handing out Covid-19 vaccine jabs, including booster shots.
Selangor is still ranked first in the vaccination drive.
Penang Private Medical Practitioner Society president Dr Parmjit Singh said getting vaccines and booster shots are imperative in managing the pandemic.
But consistent testing is also important, as it can help in the early detection and decreases the risk of asymptomatic patients infecting others, he added.
He also welcomes suggestions to reduce the cost of testing in a bid to encourage individuals to get tested regularly. – The Vibes, January 28, 2022
