KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia today registered 852 fresh Covid-19 cases, the majority of which are in Sabah.
The country also recorded four new deaths and another two clusters.
There are now 11,689 active cases of the total 40,209 logged nationwide since the pandemic began.
In a statement, the Health Ministry said 94 patients are in intensive care, with 32 on ventilators.
Sabah recorded the highest number of cases at 524 (61.5%), while the Klang Valley saw 161 (18.9%) and Labuan, 24 (2.8%).
“The states under the conditional movement control order contributed 709 (83.2%) to the total Covid-19 cases today.”
The ministry said Selangor is behind Sabah with 196 fresh infections in existing clusters, and one case in the new Ikhtisas cluster.
Forty-four cases were detected among close contacts of coronavirus patients, while one case involved an individual with severe acute respiratory infection (Sari). Another 46 cases in the state were detected through other screenings.
Negri Sembilan saw 104 cases, of which 93 are in existing clusters, while seven are in the Ikhtisas cluster. A further eight are close contacts, with one contracting Sari, and another two from other screenings.
Kuala Lumpur saw 11 cases, Perak (7), Melaka (5), and Kedah (3), while Sarawak, Putrajaya, and Kelantan recorded two cases each. Johor and Terengganu registered one case each.
There are 13 imported cases involving eight citizens and five foreigners, with three each from Indonesia and Saudi Arabia, and two from Nepal.
Arrivals from Morocco, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, Turkey and South Korea all saw one case each.
Today marks the second day of reduced daily infections. On Friday, the daily tally hit an all-time high of 1,755, with the figure dropping to 1,168 yesterday. – The Vibes, November 8, 2020
