KUALA LUMPUR – The wreckage of a helicopter that crashed in Taman Melawati here about noon has been taken to Subang for further investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB).
Ampang Jaya district police chief Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the wreckage will be handled by the helicopter company.
He said the helicopter does not have a black box as it is categorised as a light aircraft.
In the incident, two helicopters collided in mid-air, killing two people in one of them and injuring two others in the other aircraft.
AAIB air accident chief inspector Brig-Gen Izani Ismail said the agency will call up the two survivors tomorrow to assist in the probe.
“Today, both were sent to hospital. So tomorrow, they will be called up by AAIB to assist in the investigation.”
On the lack of a black box in both helicopters, he said it is because they are light aircraft.
“Black boxes are only in helicopters that are larger in size and heavier.”
Farouk said a post-mortem will be conducted on the two victims at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre tomorrow.
He said police have classified the case as sudden death. – Bernama, November 8, 2020
