KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s daily Covid-19 caseload continues to surge, with today’s infections at 22,802 as our cumulative cases breach the three million mark.
With today’s numbers, the country’s total coronavirus cases number at 3,019,163.
According to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, 22,698 cases (99.54%) are Category 1 (5,029) and 2 (17,669).
Meanwhile, 82 (0.36%) cases are Category 3, 14 patients in Category 4 and eight in Category 5.
Malaysia also recorded 24 deaths as of midnight, according to the CovidNow website – a jump from 10 victims the day before. Some nine cases yesterday were classified as brought-in-dead.
The national Covid-19 infectivity rate (Rt) today remains unchanged from yesterday’s 1.51.
However, Labuan continues to record the highest rate among the states at 2.31, higher than its record of 2.17 yesterday.
According to the director-general’s statement today, the nation recorded 5,442 recoveries today, bringing the total discharged to 2,846,713.
He added that of the cases reported today, 176 are in intensive care, while 98 of them require respiratory assistance.
The nation has seen a total of 6,586 clusters since the beginning of the pandemic, including 11 new ones detected today.
The number of clusters that have ended are at 6,171 while 415 remain active. – The Vibes, February 12, 2022
