KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has logged its highest daily reported Covid-19 deaths as of midnight with 43 cases since December 23, which recorded 44 victims.
This comes on the back of another five-figure count as the country has another 25,099 Covid-19 infections, according to data provided by the Health Ministry.
The new cases had brought the cumulative total to 3,246,779, while the death toll stands at 32,390 – with 296 victims in the past 14 days.
Of the 43 victims, 13 were brought-in-dead cases while Selangor and Johor each logged 10 deaths, followed by Kedah (seven), Sabah (five), and two each in Kelantan, Pahang, and Penang. Kuala Lumpur, Melaka, Negri Sembilan, Sarawak, and Terengganu each recorded a single death.
The data also show that 25.9% and 28.7% of deaths in the past seven days are in the age groups of 70-79 and 80 and above, respectively.
Meanwhile, Malaysia has averaged 26,461 daily infections over the last seven days, with a positivity rate of 9.8%.
Of the new caseload, Selangor tops the list with 5,535 cases, followed by Sabah (4,770), Johor (2,697), Kedah (2,486), Kelantan (1,900), Penang (1,752), Pahang (1,365), and Negri Sembilan (1,325).
States with less than 1,000 cases are Kuala Lumpur (866), Terengganu (607), Perak (465), Melaka (403), Sarawak (294), Labuan (260), Perlis (219), and Putrajaya (155).
There are also 7,307 fresh active cases, bringing the total to 258,985 while another 17,749 have recovered.
As of midnight, 245,875 (94.9%) patients are under home quarantine, 5,055 (2.0%) are in low-risk quarantine and treatment centres, 7,783 (3.0%) are hospitalised, 108 are unventilated in intensive care units, and 164 are ventilated.
There are currently 500 active clusters, of which four are new and classified as education clusters.
Kelantan’s new education clusters – Kg Kubang Keladi in Backok and Kg Landar in Pasir Mas – have 43 and 30 cases respectively, and a positivity rate of 87.8% and 65.2%.
The Jalan Tasik Puteri cluster in Gombak, Selangor has 32 cases and a 30.2% positivity rate, while the Jalan Pantai Telok Pelanduk cluster in Port Dickson, Negri Sembilan logged nine cases with a 5.6% positivity rate.
According to Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, bed usage in ICUs has exceeded 50% in four states – Johor (70%), Kelantan (61%), Kuala Lumpur (58%) and Melaka (54%) – while PKRC usage above 50% is recorded in Selangor (68%), Perak (60%), Melaka (59%) and Sabah (58%).
Of the daily caseload, 100 are in Categories 3 to 5 where 53 have yet to get their booster shots. In addition, 25 patients are either unvaccinated or yet to complete their doses, 22 have gotten their boosters, 47 are aged 60 and above, 52 with comorbidities and 1 pregnant woman.
