MIRI – Sarawak Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian tested positive for Covid-19 following a pre-trip RT-PCR test yesterday.
In a Facebook post late last night, the state local government and housing minister expressed his shock following the latest development.
Dr Sim said he had undergone a Covid-19 RT-PCR test as he was going to travel overseas.
“No symptoms and my daily morning self-testing for the last few days has been negative.
“The positive results come as a shock as I had self-tested daily, always double-masked, washed hands, and followed standard operating procedures.
“It shows how infectious it is, and how hard it is to fight the Covid-19 Omicron surge,” he said in his post.
Dr Sim also declared that he had self-reported his condition through MySejahtera and is expected to self-isolate and monitor himself for the next seven days in line with the Health Ministry’s SOPs.
“My sincere apologies for those who come into contact with me over the last few days.
“Please follow the latest Health Ministry SOPs on close contact,” he added.
Dr Sim had earlier advised the public not to take for granted preventive measures like wearing face masks, personal hygiene, and social distancing.
“We must not take things for granted as we can never be too sure we will not be infected,” he said.
