KOTA KINABALU – Sabah continues to report over 2,000 Covid-19 cases, as the state’s health authorities clear more backlog test results today.
Overall, the state reported a jump in 481 cases to 2,717, with Kota Kinabalu attributing 49.68% of the total cases.
Sabah Covid-19 spokesperson Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun said Kota Kinabalu recorded 1,350 cases, with 556 from backlogs.
“A big portion of the cases in Kota Kinabalu are backlogs. For instance, 556 of the day’s cases are from cases reported nine days ago,” said Masidi in a statement this evening.
The local government and housing minister did not indicate if there are still backlog test results awaiting to be made public in the coming days.
Covid-19 cases in Sabah soared in mid-February, peaking at over 5,500 due to sporadic infections and Omicron.
The numbers began to hit over 2,000 daily cases in late February, while the daily cases continue to hover at above 2,000 cases daily ever since.
Masidi noted that there are 1,543 persons currently needing treatment in various local health facilities, which currently have a bed capacity of 4,055 units.
A total of 990 persons or 55.3% now occupy the 1,792 beds in local Covid-19 hospitals, while 63 are currently in critical care, open wards and are in need of breathing aid machines, he said.
