KUALA LUMPUR – The Selangor Water Management Board (Luas) has identified the premises suspected of being behind the latest pollution incident in the state.

The agency, in a Facebook post, said effluents are believed to have been disposed of into a manhole, resulting in operations at the Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) sewage treatment plant in Taman Velox, Rawang, being disrupted.

The premises in question was identified following a joint effort undertaken by Luas, the Gombak district police headquarters, Environment Department, National Water Services Commission, Selayang City Council, Gombak Land Office and Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd last night.

“The premises has been inspected by the Selayang City Council. Luas will issue a water protection authority letter under Section 122 of the Luas Enactment 1999,” said the statement.

“Luas will also issue an authority letter to IWK under Section 121(1) to halt certain operations and begin clean-up works at the sewage treatment facility.”

The pollution detected in Sg Selangor yesterday led to four water treatment plants suspending operations, causing a supply disruption affecting more than a million consumer accounts in the Klang Valley.

The four plants have since resumed operations, with Air Selangor saying supply will be restored in stages starting 3pm today. – The Vibes, November 11, 2020
