KUALA LUMPUR – Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and its members currently in cabinet have been urged to resign from their posts following their disastrous outing at the Johor polls.

Taking to Facebook today, Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Mohd Puad Zarkashi questioned whether Muhyiddin and the Bersatu ministers should remain within the present Umno-led government following its open and harsh attacks against Umno and its leaders.

“They (Bersatu) campaigned to the maximum. Bersatu spent big, including preparing buses to ferry voters.

“Do press the ‘button’ if you are honourable. Bangsa Johor did not believe that you were concerned about them,” he said.

Puad’s strong call comes after the Election Commission confirmed BN’s supermajority as the coalition clinched 40 out of 56 seats in the Johor assembly.

In its official results, PH clinched 11 seats, PN won three constituencies, while youth-led Muda and PKR secured one seat each.

PN only managed to win Bukit Kepong, Endau, and Maharani.

Bersatu’s Dr Sahruddin Jamal and Alwiyah Talib won Bukit Kepong and Endau respectively, while PAS’ Aziz Talib got Maharani.

Earlier, Muhyiddin was reported as saying that he is ready to step down as Perikatan Nasional chairman if the leadership and members desire it following the coalition’s big defeat in the Johor election yesterday.

In response, Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu said the Umno splinter party will continue to support Muhyiddin’s leadership as party president despite the poor showing. – The Vibes, March 14, 2022
