KOTA KINABALU – What started as a quarrel ended with the untimely death of a woman slashed by her husband, all because of jealousy.
District police chief Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said the incident took place last night in the couple’s rented room, in an apartment building located along Jalan Segama here.
“Jealousy is believed to be the main motive. However, further investigation will be conducted to identify the actual motive of the crime,” Zaidi was quoted as saying by The Vibes’ Bahasa Malaysia sister portal Getaran.
Zaidi said the 31-year-old suspect had contacted the emergency hotline at 11.47pm informing that he had slashed his wife’s neck with a knife.
The woman, 23, was found dead on a bloodstained mattress when police arrived at the scene, he said.
“Our initial probe found that the couple was quarrelling around 10.50pm, leading to the suspect getting angry before taking a knife from the kitchen and attacking his wife.”
Zaidi said the victim had bled from her neck, face, hand, and stomach, and was pronounced dead at the location.
“The suspect was arrested on the scene. Police also confiscated a knife and a meat cleaver, one of which is believed to be the murder weapon.”
Zaidi said the suspect, a construction worker, has been remanded for further investigation, while the body of the victim has been sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital’s forensic department for post-mortem and Covid-19 testing.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, which carries a mandatory death sentence. – The Vibes, March 23, 2022
