KOTA KINABALU – The two siblings believed to have been swept away by strong river currents in Keningau on Monday night remained missing as of late yesterday after the search party scoured within a 10km radius from where they were last seen.

The fire and rescue services department has revealed the identity of the two missing siblings as Jason Lim Ze Hao, 6, and Amber Lim Ze Yee, 4. No photos were provided of the children.

According to a witness account, they went missing after the four-wheel drive they were in was swept away by intense currents as it was crossing a bridge over the overflowing Sungai Liawan in the interior of Keningau district.

The area around Kg Dangulad was then inundated by flash floods brought about by tropical storm Vamco.

The father who was driving the vehicle was saved.

A search and rescue (SAR) team equipped with a rescue boat was deployed following a distress call but the operation had to be postponed around 1.33am yesterday due to the conditions of the river.

The SAR personnel widened their search to a 10km radius from the point of the incident on the second day but still could not find the victims.

The operation yesterday also ended in failure although the search and rescue was further widened into the Sg Pegalan river.

The parties halted their search at 5pm yesterday and resume the attempt today - The Vibes, November 12, 2020
