GEORGE TOWN – Residents of the Bukit Gedung flats here have been left confused and angry after having to deal with an unexplained water supply disruption that affected some 2,000 people since yesterday.

Bukit Gedung Flats Residents’ Association head Mohd Farook Hassan Ali said the water cut has affected at least four blocks, with residents struggling to transport water to the higher floors.

“Currently, only the homes on the ground floor have very low water supply…we have a number of elderly and children residing here,” Farook said.

He said this was the first time this has happened since moving to the five-storey flats 30 years ago.

Farook said he was told the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) would only be able to conduct repair work tomorrow.

Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin said they were unable to establish the cause of the disruption, though they suspect it could be due to either a burst pipe or water tank issue.

Two fire trucks from the volunteer fire brigade were despatched to the area following a complaint to help supply water to the affected residents, Sim said.

PBAPP chief executive Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa could not be reached for comment. – The Vibes, March 27, 2022
