KUALA LUMPUR – The police are investigating the case of a teacher who allegedly caned a standard five student at a Kafa (religion and religious duties) school in Cheras.
A police report was lodged by the student’s father at the Cheras Police District on March 29.
Cheras District Police Chief Muhammad Idzam Jaafar in a statement said the teacher was said to be dissatisfied with the student who asked his classmate sitting in front of him to remove his songkok, as he had difficulty seeing what was written on the white board.
A preliminary investigation found the religious teacher had allegedly caned the student five times resulting in the student having scars and receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
“The investigation officer had gone to the school but was told that the teacher had gone on leave and was out of range,” the statement said.
The case is being investigated under section 324 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
“A detailed investigation is being conducted. The Cheras police would like to stress that any form of abuse against a student is a serious case.”
