KUALA LUMPUR – The European Union (EU) will from today recognise Covid-19 vaccination and test certificates issued by Malaysia as valid documents to secure free movement in EU member nations, according to a communique from the European bloc.
The decision means that the EU considers vaccination and test certificates uploaded on the MySejahtera app to be of the same level as the EU’s digital Covid-19 certificate, according to the delegation of the EU to Malaysia.
“A booster for business and tourism!” EU ambassador to Malaysia Michalis Rokas said in a tweet with a link to the statement.
The communique released by the European Commission stated that Malaysia’s digital Covid-19 certificates will be connected to the EU’s digital Covid-19 certificate trust framework after finding that Malaysia’s system provided sufficient data and protection of data for users of the MySejahtera app.
The commission said Malaysia had stated that it only issues test certificates for more accurate tests such as reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction tests, and that its vaccine certificates cover Pfizer-BioNTech, AstraZeneca-Oxford, Sinovac’s Coronavac, CanSino’s Convidecia and Sinopharm’s WIBP-CorV vaccines.
“In addition, Malaysia informed the commission that when verifiers in Malaysia verify certificates, the personal data included in them will be processed only to verify and confirm the holder’s vaccination, test result or recovery status and will not be retained afterwards,” the commission said.
The commission also confirmed that the Covid-19 vaccination and test certificates issued by Malaysia in accordance with the system contain the necessary data. – The Vibes, April 4, 2022
