KOTA KINABALU – The Sabah government today instructed the Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) to actively push its federal counterparts to revive the stalled Customs, Immigration, Quarantine and Security (CIQS) complex projects in two districts near the border to Kalimantan.
Two weeks ago, the federal government said it had to suspend construction of the CIQS complex in Kalabakan in Sabah’s southeastern region due to lack of funds, a year after the project was approved.
Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Mohd Noor said the federal Economic Planning Unit under the Prime Minister’s Office had informed him that they had no objections to the two projects, but advised Sedia to pursue the matter with the relevant ministries.
The Kalabakan CIQS complex is estimated to cost RM815 million, which includes RM600 million for a 39km road. The second CIQS complex in Pagalungan is expected to cost nearly RM510 million. – The Vibes, April 4, 2022
