KUALA LUMPUR – Pakatan Harapan (PH) said today that all of its parliamentarians will support amendments to the federal constitution to facilitate the enactment of the mooted anti-party hopping law.
The PH presidential council said they conveyed their support for the bill during a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri, who they said gave his commitment that the bill would be tabled during a special parliamentary sitting on April 11 as scheduled.
On March 24, Law Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar confirmed that Putrajaya will debate the anticipated bill on April 11.
Less than a week earlier, the tabling of the law in Parliament faced an obstacle as Wan Junaidi said that the government would not be able to finalise the bill until it is able to get feedback from the Barisan Nasional and Perikatan Nasional coalitions.
Earlier engagement sessions scheduled for late-February with the two parties were postponed as they wanted to focus on the Johor election.
Meanwhile, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had also urged the government to explain the ongoing MySejahtera ownership debacle to the Dewan Rakyat, the council said.
Last week, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said the government is in discussions on services subscription terms for continued use of the MySejahtera Covid-19 contact tracing mobile app with what he described as the licence holder of the app.
However, the licence holder, MySJ Sdn Bhd, has been hit with lawsuits from two of its shareholders over disputes in the shareholder agreement. – The Vibes, April 5, 2022
