TAWAU – The state government today said it will hand out a special payment to all civil servants up to grade N54, in conjunction with next month’s Hari Raya celebration and Kaamatan Harvest Festival.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the RM500 special bonus will be paid out to all full-time, part-time and contract staff before Hari Raya Puasa on May 3, while state government pensioners will receive RM250.

There are currently 20,271 civil servants employed in Sabah, according to state government data.

Meanwhile, Hajiji said the state government has set aside RM18.2 million to help rebuild homes and facilities destroyed by separate fires in Tawau and Semporna.

The funds are expected to benefit over 1,000 households in Kg Kurnia Jaya in Tawau and Kg Bangau-Bangau settlement in Semporna, he said.

Nearly 600 houses were destroyed when a massive fire broke out in Kg Kurnia Jaya on March 17, affecting some 3,000 people. A separate fire in Kg Bangau-Bangau in 2015 razed 300 houses and displaced about 3,000 people.

The state government will also hand out RM500 in cash aid to each family affected by the Kg Kurnia Jaya fire, Hajiji said. – The Vibes, April 6, 2022
