KOTA KINABALU – Sabah’s express bus fares will increase by 10% percent for 10 days during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

Sabah Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board (CVLB) chairman Datuk Chin Kim Hiung said the decision was made by the state cabinet.

The board had earlier received an application from the Sabah Bus Operators and Drivers Association to impose a 30% surcharge on bus fares for each passenger during the festive season.

He said the fares will increase from 13 sen to 14.3 sen per km from April 29 until May 8.

“Sabah CVLB is also informed of the need for additional buses to cater to the increasing demand during Hari Raya Aidilfitri now that the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) issued by the government are more lenient,” he said in a statement today.

The board has also agreed to open applications for temporary licence conversions during the upcoming Raya period, and any express bus company is eligible to apply, he added.  The temporary licence will only be effective from April 29 until May 8.

He said that the application date for the said licence is open from April 11 until April 22, and forms can be acquired from the Sabah CVLB headquarters office in Kota Kinabalu, and its branches in Tawau and Sandakan.

“I believe that this decision will have various responses from those who are affected. However, I believe that this is a win-win solution to ensure that the welfare of all parties is protected, in line with the Keluarga Malaysia concept.

“I also hope that all parties involved will continue to obey the SOP to avoid the spread of Covid-19,” he said. – The Vibes, April 8, 2022.
