GEORGE TOWN – On Deepavali eve, Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today announced an 2021 education fund of RM2 million for the development of Tamil vernacular schools (SJKT) and RM150,000 for kindergartens in Tamil schools.

In a statement, he said: “I understand the situation of Hindus who have to celebrate Deepavali tomorrow in moderation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Indeed, the celebration of festivals in such a new normal is a difference.”

Meanwhile, this year the state has already allocated RM1.5 million for the Indian community via the Penang Hindu Endowment Board.

The allocation will be used to provide educational assistance to students who will be attending institutions of higher learning, improving temple and crematorium management, and medical assistance to those in need. – The Vibes, November 13, 2020
