KUALA LUMPUR – Three people were injured, and 50 cars damaged following an explosion and subsequent fire at a police evidence depot in Sentul earlier today.

According to the Kuala Lumpur fire department, over 60 officers from five stations responded to the incident on Jalan Perhentian where they found over 30% of the building and 80% of the open area ablaze.

The three victims, all male, suffered light injuries and were rushed to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.

The fire was brought under control by 7.04pm.

The explosion, which took place just before 6.30pm, shook nearby high-rise buildings and shattered windows and ceilings of houses in the vicinity.

Authorities have yet to establish the cause of the explosion.

Earlier today at the site of the blast, Sentul police conducted an evidence disposal exercise where over 1,000 boxes of fireworks and firecrackers worth some RM4.1 million were destroyed. – The Vibes, April 26, 2022
