KOTA KINABALU – Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) is prepared to face the general election alone if it fails to find a consensus in the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition.

PBS president Datuk Seri Maximus Ongkili said his party has done it before in the 2020 state election and is prepared to do it again.

“We chose the Sabah election to go on our own, although there were invitations to be part of Bersatu as well as Umno wanting us to use the Barisan Nasional flag.

“We were friendly to Bersatu, which is part of GRS,” he said on Wednesday.

PBS is a member of the four-party GRS alliance.

But at this point, Ongkili will maintain cooperation with GRS where the parties will continue to support each other to ensure a victory in the coming general election.

Meanwhile, there have been calls to work with Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

“We have had discussions with GPS leaders, and they said Sabah’s problem is we are not united and have non-Sabah based parties.”

However, he said GPS did not dismiss the possibilities of a cooperation and wanted further discussions to realise an all-Borneo coalition.

He added that PBS hoped for an alignment of the parties in Sabah and Sarawak, saying there is a desire for the return of local parties to rule Sabah. – The Vibes, May 6, 2022
