KUALA LUMPUR – The Health Ministry has encouraged adults to get their second Covid-19 booster shots, days after senior citizens and the immunocompromised were advised to do the same.

A tweet on MoH’s official Twitter account also reminded that the second booster shots are voluntary.

“Individuals who have received their primary Covid-19 vaccine doses, and later the booster doses, have been proven to have optimum protection against severe Covid-19 infections and death.

“Receiving a second booster vaccine dose is encouraged for the following groups,” said the tweet, followed by an infographic.

In the illustration, MoH recommended that those aged 18 to 59 who are suffering from serious clinical diseases such as cardiovascular, lungs, or kidney diseases opt for the second booster shot.

The ministry also gave the recommendation for all individuals aged 60 and above, adding that the shot should be taken between four to six months after their first booster dose.

For those with underlying clinical diseases, the MoH recommended seeking a doctor’s advice before opting for a second booster.

Additionally, MoH recommended that youth aged 12 to 17 suffering from existing clinical diseases receive their first booster shot at least four to six months after their second dose.

On Sunday, registration for senior citizens and the immunocompromised officially opened through the MySejahtera contact tracing app.

Last month, the ministry had issued guidelines for the second booster shot for senior citizens and citizens who will be travelling abroad. – The Vibes, May 12, 2022
